CHARTER

CHAPTER 1.

1-1. Form of Government. The form of government of City of Elberon, Iowa, is the Mayor-Council form of government.

1-2. Powers and Duties. The Council and Mayor and other City Officers have such powers and shall perform such duties as are authorized or required by state law and by the ordinances, resolutions, rules and regulations of the City of Elberon, Iowa.

1-3. Number and Term of Council. The council consists of five (5) councilmembers elected at large, elected for terms of four (4) years. In 1999, three (3) shall be elected for four (4) year terms, two (2) for two (2) year terms; in 2001, two (2) shall be elected for four (4) year terms, thereby establishing four (4) year terms for all.

1-4. Term of Mayor. The Mayor is elected for a term of two (2) years.

1-5. Copies on File. The City Clerk shall keep an official copy of this charter on file with the official records of the City Clerk, shall immediately file a copy with the Secretary of State of Iowa, and shall keep copies of the charter available at the City Clerk's office for public inspection.
